Converting your Overseas License - Things you Need to Know

Do you have any plan for shifting your base to Melbourne, Victoria lately? Well, the very first thing you will need after moving your base to the city is your own car to commute easily without any hassle. If you already have got your driving lesson, it may seem that getting a new car will be enough for the communication purpose.

But, have you thought about transferring your overseas license. Transferring your licenses from any other country to Melbourne involves a few essential factors. When you are converting the license according to Victorian law, you have to qualify in a few driving tests.

First things first.

You may not have to book for any driving test in driving schools in Carrum Downs if you have got your overseas driving license done from a ‘Recognised Country’. The same rule applies if you have driven in a country where driver experience is considered as IS recognised.

Driving License Based on Visa Category

There are some rules defined based on the type of visa you have for your stay in Australia.

If you have a temporary visa, you will not need to get a Victorian driving license or a learner’s permit. If you already have an overseas driving license, you can use it for driving in Victoria till the time you have plans to stay here.

For Permanent visa holders, there are some rules. As per the faculty working in the best driving schools in Clyde, you may get the facility of driving your car using your overseas license if you have a permanent visa. Also, the license details must be there written in English or need to have an English translation.

Your overseas license will remain valid for 6 months from the time you have entered Australia with the visa that was issued ahead of your journey. Also, if you were right there in Australia when the visa was released, you will get to use your driving license permit for 6 months from the issue date.

Once the period is expired, your overseas license will be converted to the interstate driving license for you to drive in Victoria.
